Meiji Jingu
Meiji Jingu is one of the well-known Shinto shrines in Japan, which has a large area (70 ha.) of forest in the middle of the Tokyo metropolis.
Once you step onto the grounds, you will forget that you are in a busy city and will find scenes of Japanese tradition in a tranquil setting surrounded by greenery. The shrine was established in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who took the initiative to establish a foundation for a modernized Japan.
Kintsugi
Kintsugi is a unique Japanese culture that has been used since ancient times to repair earthenware.
Using natural lacquer and pure gold, the process restores the pieces to their original state, making them both stronger and beautiful, safer for the body and the soul.
Instead of removing the cracks and chips resulting from deterioration (sabi), the beauty is found in the imperfect state (wabi), and the scenery decorated with gold has the spirit of "wabi sabi”. It also has the spirit of "MOTTAINAI”. This word means "to have no true identity," in other words, "to act in a manner that is not in line with one's true nature". This includes not only throwing away things that can still be used, but also behavior of abandoning dreams and careers that have been built up, and losing sight of how things are meant to be.
Kintsugi not only means to conserve resources, but also to cherish the various setbacks and hardships we face, and to live stronger, beautiful lives.
